Melissa Kuan is the Head of Strategy and Business Development of New York Life Investment Management (NYLIM), where she serves as a member of the firm’s management committee.  She leads enterprise-wide growth initiatives, including mergers and acquisitions, strategic partnerships, and competitive positioning efforts, while overseeing the investment consulting team that provides investment oversight, manager diligence, and risk and performance analysis across public and private market strategies.  Melissa serves on the boards of several global investment affiliates.

Previously, Melissa held senior leadership roles at New York Life Insurance Company, including as a member of the Office of the Chief Investment Officer, where she evaluated and implemented general account asset allocation and investment strategy.  She was also instrumental in the firm’s strategic evaluation, acquisition and divestiture of various international insurance and investment businesses. 

Prior to joining New York Life in 2008, Melissa held equity research and investment banking roles at Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank and Lehman Brothers, analyzing and advising companies across the financial services sector. 

Melissa holds a BA in Economics from Yale University and an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
