John Schumacher - Senior Managing Director, New York Life Investment Management LLC; CEO, New York Life Capital Partners, L.P.
Mr. Schumacher is CEO of New York Life Capital Partners, L.P. ("NYLCP"), a $1.2 billion private equity co-investment program sponsored by New York Life which he co-founded in 1999. In addition, he manages a private equity portfolio valued at approximately $2 billion for New York Life. This pool is focused primarily on investments in LBO and growth equity funds. NYLCP also manages a mezzanine fund and a debt opportunities fund of funds.
Mr. Schumacher has specialized in private placement investment management and corporate finance for over 23 years. He joined New York Life in 1991, and has been particularly instrumental in developing the strategy for and increasing the assets allocated to the private equity asset class. Mr. Schumacher represents New York Life as an Advisory Board member in several private equity funds including Texas Pacific Group, Vestar Capital, ABRY Partners, and Swander Pace. He is active in private equity industry events and has spoken at many industry conferences on leveraged buyouts and mezzanine finance.
Prior to co-founding NYLCP, Mr. Schumacher was the Vice President in charge of the Private Finance Group of the Investment Department, with responsibility for the $13 billion portfolio of private investments, which includes the areas of private equity, high yield and investment grade fixed income private placements, project finance, asset-backed securities and international investments. Prior to joining New York Life, Mr. Schumacher was a Vice President in the Private Placement Department at Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company.
Education
Mr. Schumacher earned a Masters of Business Administration in 1989 from New York University’s Stern School of Business and a Bachelor of Arts in History in 1978 from Columbia College.
