New York Life Capital Partners LLC (NYLCAP) manages over $6.8 billion1 of private equity assets, including direct equity, direct mezzanine, and limited partnership investments. As an affiliate of New York Life Investment Management, NYLCAP manages alternative assets for New York Life Insurance Company, its affiliates and other institutional investors.

NYLCAP, together with its predecessor organizations, began investing in private equity partnerships in 1984 and has been an active, direct private equity investor since 1991 when John Schumacher and Adam Clemens took over the program.

NYLCAP's partnership investment philosophy for the past 18 years has been to create a focused portfolio of key relationships with top-performing financial sponsors utilizing a "Core Partner" strategy.

NYLCAP's eight managing principals have over 150 years of collective investment experience and an average tenure at New York Life of over 14 years.   • John E. Schumacher—CEO
    Mr. Schumacher joined New York Life in 1991 and is currently CEO of NYLCAP, responsible for overseeing all NYLCAP investment activities. Prior to co-founding NYLCAP, Mr. Schumacher was the head of the $14 billion Private Finance Group of New York Life. Previously, Mr. Schumacher was a Vice President in the Private Placement Department at Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company. Mr. Schumacher earned a B.A. in History from Columbia College and an M.B.A from New York University's Stern School of Business.


  • Adam G. Clemens, CFA—President
    Mr. Clemens joined New York Life in 1991 and is currently President of NYLCAP, responsible for overseeing all NYLCAP investment activities. Prior to co-founding NYLCAP, Mr. Clemens was the head of Private Equity and Leveraged Finance within New York Life's Private Finance Group. Prior to joining New York Life, Mr. Clemens was a Vice President with Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company in the Private Placement Group, where he began his career in 1984. Mr. Clemens earned a B.S. in International Economics, cum laude, from Georgetown University and an M.B.A as a Beta Gamma Sigma graduate from Columbia University. Mr. Clemens is a holder of the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.


  • Steven M. Benevento, CFA—Senior Managing Principal, Equity
    Mr. Benevento joined New York Life in 1995 and is currently a Senior Managing Principal responsible for equity co-investments and fund investing. Prior to NYLCAP, Mr. Benevento managed a portfolio of private equity and non-investment grade debt investments within New York Life's Private Finance Group. Previously, Mr. Benevento worked in the investment group of TIAA-CREF where he focused on debt and mezzanine investments in the private market. Mr. Benevento earned a B.S. in Finance, summa cum laude, in 1987 from the State University of New York at Albany and an M.B.A in 1991 from New York University's Stern School of Business. Mr. Benevento was a Beta Gamma Sigma honoree as both an undergraduate and graduate student. Mr. Benevento is also a holder of the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.


  • Thomas M. Haubenstricker—Senior Managing Principal, Mezzanine
    Mr. Haubenstricker joined New York Life in 1991 and is currently a Senior Managing Principal responsible for mezzanine and fund investing. Previously, Mr. Haubenstricker was co-head of the Private Finance Group overseeing $14 billion in assets. Since joining New York Life, Mr. Haubenstricker has assumed positions of increasing responsibility, including an overseas assignment when he established New York Life's London affiliate in 1994. Prior to joining New York Life, Mr. Haubenstricker worked at Prudential Financial where he focused on leveraged financings in their Private Placement Group. Mr. Haubenstrikcer earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering, with honors, from Michigan State University and an M.B.A from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.


  • Quint Barker, CFA—Managing Principal, Equity
    Mr. Barker joined NYLCAP in 2000 and is currently a Managing Principal focused on equity co-investments and fund investing. Prior to NYLCAP, Mr. Barker was a Vice President in PaineWebber's Principal Transactions Group, where he co-managed a $1 billion portfolio of alternative assets and was responsible for the firm's, the Chairman's, and other top executives' venture capital, LBO equity, real estate, and hedge fund investments. Prior to PaineWebber, Mr. Barker worked in the Private Equity and Private High Yield division of New York Life specializing in LBO equity, mezzanine, and high yield investments. Mr. Barker earned a B.E.E. from Georgia Tech and an M.B.A from Duke University. Mr. Barker is a holder of the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.


  • David Bangs—Managing Principal
    Mr. Bangs joined NYLCAP in 2006 and is currently a Managing Principal primarily focused on limited partnership investing. Prior to NYLCAP, Mr. Bangs oversaw NYLIM's Private Finance and Public Investment Grade Corporate Bond Groups, which included leveraged loans and emerging market bonds. Prior to that, Mr. Bangs was the co-head of NYLIM's Private Finance Group. He joined New York Life in 1996 from Kemper Securities where he was responsible for all aspects of originating, structuring, and placing private placements, primarily for middle market companies. Prior to that, he worked for Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company working on all aspects of their private placements business. He has over 20 years of investment experience, which includes serving on NYLCAP's Investment Committee since its inception. Mr. Bangs earned a B.A. in Political Economy from John Hopkins University and an M.B.A in Finance from New York University.


  • Amanda Parness—Managing Principal
    Ms. Parness joined New York Life in 1998 and is currently a Managing Principal. Prior to joining New York Life, Ms. Parness worked as a Financial Analyst in the Equity Research Department of Goldman Sachs. Ms. Parness earned a B.A. with dual majors in Economics and English Literature from Barnard College at Columbia University and an M.B.A from Columbia University.


  • Susan Ruskin—Managing Principal
    Ms. Ruskin joined NYLCAP in 2001 and is currently a Managing Principal. Prior to joining NYLCAP, Ms. Ruskin worked as an Associate in the Credit Portfolio Division of J.P. Morgan. Ms. Ruskin earned a B.A. in International Relations, cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.


  • Matthew Cashion—Jr. Principal
    Mr. Cashion joined New York Life in 1998 and is currently a Junior Principal. Prior to joining NYLCAP, Mr. Cashion was an Analyst in the Private Finance Group of New York Life, specializing in bank loans and private high yield investments. Mr. Cashion earned a BA with dual majors in Comparative Government and Spanish Language in 1998 from Georgetown University and an M.B.A in 2005 from Columbia Business School.


  • Paul V. Roberts—Jr. Principal
    Mr. Roberts joined NYLCAP in 2004 and is currently a Junior Principal. Prior to joining NYLCAP, Mr. Roberts served as a financial consultant to private companies in the San Francisco Bay area, where he had responsibility for establishing and improving financial and accounting systems, capital raising and financial engineering. Prior to this, Mr. Roberts headed the finance department of Intira Corporation, a data communications service company. Prior to joining Intira, Mr. Roberts was a Principal at JPMorgan Partners where he was responsible for originating, structuring and executing private equity investments. Mr. Roberts earned a B.S. in Accounting in 1984 from California State University-Los Angeles and an M.B.A in Finance and Corporate Strategy in 1995 from the University of Michigan Business School.


  • A. Vijay Palkar—Vice President
    Mr. Palkar joined NYLCAP in 2002 and is currently a Vice President. Prior to joining NYLCAP, Mr. Palkar worked as a Financial Analyst in the Investment Banking Division of Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc. As a member of the Technology Group, specializing in Aerospace/Defense, Mr. Palkar analyzed and executed merger, acquisition, strategic advisory, and debt/equity financing transactions. Mr. Palkar earned a B.S.E with a concentration in Finance in 2000 from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.


  • Charles Cocuzza—Senior Associate
    Mr. Cocuzza joined NYLCAP in 2005 and is currently a Senior Associate. Prior to joining NYLCAP, he worked at Northport Partnership Management, LLC where he provided accounting and systems consulting services to firms throughout the private equity industry. Mr. Cocuzza earned a B.S. in Finance from the Rutgers University School of Business of New Brunswick.


  • Scott Iorio—Senior Associate
    Mr. Iorio joined NYLCAP in 2006 and is currently a Senior Associate. Prior to joining NYLCAP, he was an Analyst in Citigroup's Global Banking Division. At Citigroup, he analyzed and executed debt financings, leveraged buyouts, recapitalizations, mergers, and acquisitions on behalf of clients in the Technology, Media and Communications industries. Mr. Iorio earned a B.S. in Finance and a minor in Accounting from Providence College.


  • David Lippin—Associate
    Mr. Lippin joined NYLCAP in 2007 and is currently an Associate. Prior to joining NYLCAP, he was a consultant for First Manhattan Consulting Group where he advised financial institutions on business strategy and was a founding member of the firm's Australasian office. Mr. Lippin earned a B.A. in economics from Harvard College.


  • Cassie Hsu—Associate
    Ms. Hsu joined NYLCAP in 2007 and is currently an Associate. Prior to joining NYLCAP, she was an Analyst in Citigroup's Investment Banking Division. As a member of the Consumer and Retail group, she analyzed and executed merger, acquisition, strategic advisory, and debt/equity financing transactions. Ms. Hsu earned a B.A. in Economics and International Studies from Yale University.


  • Randall Chin—Associate
    Mr. Chin joined NYLCAP in 2008 and is currently an Associate. Prior to joining NYLCAP, he was an Analyst in Oppenheimer's/CIBC World Markets' Mergers & Acquisitions Group. At Oppenheimer/CIBC World Markets, he analyzed and executed leveraged buyouts, strategic advisory, mergers and acquisitions across several industries. Mr. Chin earned his B.S. in Business Administration in 2006 from the Washington University in Saint Louis, MO.


  • William Yoon—Associate
    Mr. Yoon joined NYLCAP in 2008 and is currently an Associate. Prior to joining NYLCAP, he was an Analyst in Deutsche Bank's Investment Banking Division. As a member of the Mergers, Acquisitions & Structuring group, he analyzed and executed merger, acquisition, and strategic advisory transactions across a range of industries. Mr. Yoon earned a B.A. in Economics and minor in Sociology in 2006 from Northwestern University.


  • Jonathan Jou—Associate
    Mr. Jou joined NYLCAP in 2008 and is currently an Associate. Prior to joining NYLCAP, he was an Analyst in Lehman Brothers' Investment Banking Division. At Lehman, he worked in the Financial Sponsors Group where he analyzed and executed leveraged buyout transactions. Mr. Jou earned a B.S. and a B.A. from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH.
