Edmund C. Spelman

Co-Head of Growth Equity Division
Mr. Spelman joined MacKay Shields as a Director in 1991, was promoted to Managing Director in 1996, and became Senior Managing Director in 1999. Prior to joining MacKay Shields, he was a Vice President and Analyst at Oppenheimer & Co. for eight years and a research analyst for three years with Dow Jones. Mr. Spelman has 21 years investment management and research experience. He earned a B.S. and an M.S. from the University of Pennsylvania.
Rudolph C. Carryl

Co-Head of Growth Equity Division
Mr. Carryl joined MacKay Shields as Director and Portfolio Manager/Research Analyst in 1992. He was promoted to Managing Director in 1996 and became Senior Managing Director in 1999. Prior to joining MacKay Shields, Mr. Carryl was Research Director and Senior Portfolio Manager at Value Line. He has spent 23 years in investment management and research. Mr. Carryl earned a B.S. with honors from the University of London.
Denise E. Higgins, CFA

Ms. Higgins joined MacKay Shields' Growth Equity team in 1999 after having spent six years at J.P. Morgan Investment Management, most recently as a Small Cap Portfolio Manager. Prior to that she was with Lord, Abbett & Company for 11 years. Ms. Higgins is a Chartered Financial Analyst and a member of both the Association of Investment Management and Research and the New York Society of Security Analysts. She has 19 years experience investment management and research experience. Ms. Higgins received a B.A. in Economics at The College of Mount Saint Vincent and an M.B.A. in Finance from The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
Helena Openshaw, Ph.D.

Portfolio Manager, Research Analyst
With over 15 years of equity research and portfolio management experience, Ms. Openshaw was most recently a Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager at Comerica Inc. Prior to Comerica, Ms. Openshaw held positions in small-cap portfolio management and equity research with Ganz Capital Management and Value Line Asset Management. She also spent six years as a teacher at the University of Buffalo. Ms. Openshaw received her B.A. and M.A. from the University of South Florida. She earned an M.B.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Buffalo, and completed graduate course work in business at New York University.
Robert J. Centrella, CFA

Portfolio Manager/Research Analyst
Mr. Centrella joined MacKay Shields in 1996 as a Portfolio Manager/Research Analyst in the Equity Division. He was most recently with Gibraltar Advisors where he was Vice President and Portfolio Manager. Prior to that, Mr. Centrella was with Foxhall Investment Management as a Portfolio Manager, and earlier in his career he was a Senior Financial Analyst at the Federal National Mortgage Association. He has been in the investment management industry since 1985. He received a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Scranton and an M.B.A. in Finance from George Mason University. He became a holder of the Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 1993.
John Butler

Mr. Butler joined MacKay Shields as a Director in 2002. Prior to joining the firm, he was Managing Director of Equity Research at SG Cowen Securities Corporation. Previously Mr. Butler performed equity research with Prudential Securities and Alex, Brown & Sons. He has been in the investment management and research industry since 1993. Mr. Butler received a B.A. from Lafayette College and an M.B.A. in Finance from The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
Lanette Donovan

Portfolio Manager/Research Analyst
Ms. Donovan joined MacKay Shields as Director and Growth Equity Portfolio Manager/Research Analyst in 2005. She was most recently Managing Director of Global Equity Investments at Deutsche Asset Management. Prior to that, she spent several years as Managing Director of Global Equity Research at SSBCITI Global Asset Management. Previously, Ms. Donovan was Director of Equity Research at College Retirement Equities Fund, and prior to that, she was an Equity Research Analyst at Gabelli & Company. Earlier in her career, Ms. Donovan managed private investments, and also spent some time at Credit Agricole, Twenty-First Securities, and Bankers Trust Company. She received her M.B.A. from the Columbia Business School and her B.S. in Finance from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Ms. Donovan has been in the investment management and research industry since 1984.
