| Go Green! Saving the Planet One Prospectus at a Time |
 |
"Anything else you're interested in is not going to happen if you can't breathe the air and drink the water. Don't sit this one out. Do something. You are by accident of fate alive at an absolutely critical moment in the history of our planet." —Carl Sagan
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the world's population is growing at a mind-numbing rate, and it is expected to top 9 billion by 2050. Since the world only has a fixed amount of natural resources, if evenly distributed, the people of 2050 will have 25% of the resources per capita that people in 1950 had. Scary thought? Maybe, but if we want to leave those who follow us with the same standard of living we have enjoyed, now is the time to create a culture of environmental responsibility. Now is the time to "Go Green."

Looking for other ways to go green? Why not consider:
- Reuse the plastic bags you get when you go shopping, or buy a canvas bag and use that each time instead.
- Recycle the items that you would normally just throw into the garbage bin. Most areas have a free recycling program, just place the recyclable items in a separate bin next to your garbage.
- Eat local produce from the farmers market or other local grocers.
- Unplug unused electronics and appliances when they aren't in use. Standby mode uses more energy then you think. You can lower your bills and save energy by unplugging toasters, microwaves, TVs, and other items when they're not in use.
- When washing your clothes, use the cold or warm temperature setting. Modern detergents will work fine at these lower temperatures.
- Invest in a digital thermostat which can be set to automatically lower and raise the temperature gradually as needed throughout the day. This will make a big difference in energy savings.
- If you have a garden, use compost rather then buying traditional chemical-based fertilizers.
